Sexual Recommendations: Aggressive Sexual Language

In the past week, aggressive sexual language was used within the game by both your child and other gamers they were playing with. Here are some recommendations on how to speak about sexually aggressive language with your child.

Tips for Conversation (11-14)

Explain to your child that you were notified about the sexually aggressive communications in the game between them and others.

  • Explain that you know this is a time when kids start to use more sexualized language, but that it’s important to be careful not to offend or intimidate others.
  • Even if they wanted to be funny and didn’t want to hurt others, they may get banned from the game, and they should avoid this language and think about how it makes someone feel.
  • Assess how they feel about the comments that were directed to them and empathize by sharing that sometimes gamers try to get the upper hand by teasing others.
  • If this type of behavior continues, you can check the game and see if it’s age-appropriate for your child. Suggest that your child stops playing with this group of players or this specific game given the toxic environment.
