The murder of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department has gained the attention of millions across the world. Many have joined together in protests in city centers to spread awareness of the situation and show their support in the fight against racial inequality.
Blackout Tuesday amassed millions of black screen posts on Instagram
Teens have also expressed an uproar of support for the Black Lives Matter movement on social media. On Instagram, they shared videos and details of the actions of the four ex-policemen that led to the killing of Floyd. Last Tuesday, Instagram users across the U.S. posted black screens to their pages for Blackout Tuesday, as a symbol of their support for and solidarity with the #BLM movement.
Teens have also showed their support for the movement by donating to fundraisers, signing petitions and calling for their friends to do the same on all socials. The #BLM hashtag has amassed 5.8 billion views on Tik Tok, expressing a very engaged youthful community.
